Persian Carpets
Though it is not easy to tell the difference between a handmade Persian carpet and one made in the factory, it is still important to consider some of the aspects that set them apart. For many years Persian carpets have been woven by hand. These carpets have been traditionally made by the people of Iraq. Factory made carpets are as a result of industrialization. All the weaves in the Persian carpets are tied and knotted. Factory made carpets have their threads loomed and held together by the use of acrylic or glue. This makes the factory made carpets less durable than handmade ones. It involves the dedication and commitment of the carpet maker to weave the carpet. The results are however good and worth the time and effort.
The value of the handmade Persian carpets increases with age. The wool that makes them becomes shiny after being used for some years. This unlike factory made carpets whose value drops with the passage of time. It is much easier to clean handmade carpets unlike factory made carpets the have waterproof chemicals that limit the penetration of water through the carpet. After washing the handmade carpet it should be put out to dry immediately.
A Persian handmade carpet is an investment. Since its value appreciates with use it can sold later to fetch a tidy sum of money. Remember they are more durable than factory made carpets which are usually discarded after a few years of use. Handmade carpets are rare and therefore those people who have them can reap handsomely from them in the future. Though they may be considered to be expensive they are worth the investment that you make for them. The larger factory made carpets are also expensive but these have no residual value as they wear away after a few years of use.
